“I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of
the Lord.’”
Our forebears built in days of yore, this house of brick and stone
A sacred shrine where, day by day, God’s glory they made
known.
They with their children praised His Name, To youth His Will revealed;
While aged saints for comfort came and wounded hearts were healed.
Pour out Thy Spirit on us , who face a different hour
Bestow thy wisdom from above and fill us with Thy power.
While we commemorate the past from which the present sprung,
Lord, consecrate us to the task by noble ones begun.
Grant us the joy of building too for ages yet to be,
Not only shrines of wood and stone, but hearts in which all see
The Spirit of the Son of God alive from day to day,
That they may love the living Lord and walk His holy way.
“I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of
the Lord.’”
(from Hymns by Ernest K. Emurian, 1981.)

PRAYER OF DEDICATION FOR OUR OFFERING
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION
Lift up your hearts and give thanks to God.
Blessed are you, O God, who with your Word and Holy Spirit
created all things and called them good.
In Jesus Christ your Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Through Jesus’ suffering and death you took upon yourself our sin and death
and destroyed their power for ever.
You raised from the dead this same Jesus, who now reigns with you in glory,
and poured upon us your Holy Spirit,
making us the people of your new covenant.
On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread,
gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
When the supper was over he took the cup,
gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ’s offering for us.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts,
that in the breaking of this bread and the drinking of this wine
we may know the presence of the living Christ
and be renewed as the body of Christ for the world, redeemed by Christ’s blood,
until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at your table for ever.
Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and for ever.
Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*AN ADVENT AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Nathan Nettleton
We believe in God, creator and lover of the earth, origin and destiny
of us all.
We believe in Jesus the Christ
- God coming to us in the fragile promise of a baby yet unborn - who emerges as the herald of hope, God's laughter in the face of despair.
Plunged into death and hell, he broke free the captives, and is leading the way to the land of promise where justice and peace will flourish. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who implants the seed of truth,
brings us to birth as the body of Christ, and empowers us to confront and transform all that is corrupt, degrading and deceitful. We believe in the coming reign of God.
Announced by the Baptist, it has drawn near to us in Jesus, and will be consummated in the glorious marriage of earth and heaven,
when all who have passed through the world's deep sorrow will be raised from the waters, robed in righteousness, and gathered into the joyous fulfillment of God's desire. For the coming of that day on this day,
we work and pray: Come, Lord Jesus, Come! *HYMN NO. 2100, verses 1 and 2 (TFWS) Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne
